How to set up a personal Paypal account

Paypal is an American invention. It enables users to bank, buy and sell online with relative ease.

If you are already an active member of Helium.com you will know the importance of having a paypal account. Helium sends payments through Paypal and so do many more such sites.

As Paypal is a quick, easy and relatively safe way to transfer money on-line a variety of websites use Paypal. These days you can purchase on-line by paying with Paypal and in some cases you can actually save money by using Paypal offers.

Setting up an account is quick and easy, especially if you follow my easy 1-2-3.

Let's take a look at paypal's homepage

Check out Paypal's Homepage. Here you will see a brief overview of Paypal and the option to sign up for a Paypal account. Here are some of the benefits of using Paypal:-

Instructions
Step 1
Decide on your email address and bank account

Paypal uses your email address to do business. It may be that you will feel happier having a specific email address just for using for Paypal transactions. The choice is yours. If money, which you will be wanting to withdraw, will be being paid into your Paypal account, you will need to supply details of the bank account where this money will go. Paypal uses a secure server but, like many sites has had security breaches. Personally I feel it is as safe as any other means of banking these days. So, bear all of this in mind and have to hand your:-

  • EMAIL ADDRESS
  • BANK ACCOUNT DETAILS
Step 2
Signing up for a Paypal account

  • Select sign up for a Personal Account.
  • Follow the on screen instructions.
  • Do not give more personal information than is necessary.
  • Have a password in mind
  • Make sure that your password is a mixture of letters, numbers and punctuation symbols in order to make it secure. It should be between 8 and 20 characters long.
  • If you need to make a note of this password be careful where you store it. Try hiding it in the middle of a long list of letters, numbers and symbols.
  • Never tell anyone your password.
Step 3
The Sign Up Process

  • Read Paypal's privacy policy and Terms of Agreement
  • If you are happy with what you have read, select Agree and Create Account.
Step 4
Options

  • Next you can select a bank account, credit or debit card which will be your preferred option when making online purchases.
  • Either opton is easy to set up and enables such payments to be made without revealing your card or bank account details to the trader.
  • If you are only going to use your Paypal account for receiving money you do not have to complete these steps.
  • Even if you will need to set these options up you, can do this later.
  • Select Go To My Account to complete your Paypal account
Step 5
Verifying your account

  • You will receive an email from Paypal asking you to confirm your email address. Follow the link to activate your paypal account.
  • Do this as soon as possible to complete the process.
  • Your account will have a limit set on it initially. This means that you will only be able to receive a certain amount of money into your account.  Follow the LIFT YOUR ACCOUNT LIMITS and verify your bank account so that your account if fully functional.
  • You do not have to do this immediately but you may as well. If you are going to use your paypal account regularly you will need to do it sooner or later.
  • To verify that the bank account you have registered is yours Paypal will send a test transaction to it. This will cost you nothing.
  • This measure is necessary to prevent international money laundering and other criminal activities.
You will need
Current email address
Current bank account
Secure Password

Paypal In General

The money from withdrawals tends to be in your bank account within 7 days.

Paypal offers a Resolution Centre which will help you to solve any issues you may have.

When you receive new funds into your Paypal account you will receive a confirmation email.

Never save your log in details on a shared computer.

Check your Paypal details occasionally, in case your security has been breeched.

If you see anything untoward, such as changes which you have not made, inform Paypal immediately.

Remember that Paypal is not perfect but at present it is the only viable means for some on-line trading.

Hi Mahmood. This is a problem for Helium and not easy to overcome - if at all possible. A recent thread on the community boards discusses the issue. http://www.helium.com/smf/index.php?topic=48473.0 The only possibility at this time is for you to find someone with a PayPal account who will accept and forward your earnings. You would then have to go to your My Helium page and edit your account to include the email address of your payments' recipient. Good luck with this and good luck with your writing!

I guess Helium could pay in Amazon Vouchers like sites such as Dooyoo do?. Difficult one.

Thanks, Ethel. Yes, Helium is aware of the issue and has been trying to remedy it by looking at other methods of payment. Could be a hard ask, because PP discourages other forms of payment if you have an account with them. I don’t know the conditions of Helium’s PP account or how limiting they may be. I’ve been shopping around for other internet banking providers and while none match PayPal, they all seem to only operate in the same zones.

Now that's a point Elisabeth. I presume Helium know about this issue. I will have a quick look around.

Excellent overview, Ethel. I fully endorse your set-up process and have long experienced the benefits you mention of having a PP account. Do you have any suggestions for people who live in countries where PayPal does not operate? Writers who live in these countries are not able to access their Helium earnings which, somehow, doesn't seem fair.
